Introduction:

Christopher N. Hunter is Krebs Professor of Biochemistry, Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in University of Sheffield. He was elected as the Fellow of the Royal Society in 2009. He is one of the leading experts in the field of bacteria photosynthetic, and has made a great influence in aspects of physiological and biochemical mechanisms of photosynthetic bacteria. He is the chief editor for a standard text in photosynthesis "The Purple Phototrophic Bacteria". His research interests include the function and structure of biological origin and photosynthesis in the film.

He was one of the first in his field to fuse the disciplines of molecular genetics and biophysics for protein engineering studies. He invented genetic systems to identify and characterise the genes for chlorophyll and carotenoid biosynthesis, then he used the genes to make recombinant proteins for a long-term programme of enzyme kinetics, and more recently he have innovated in photosynthesis and membrane protein research by applying atomic force microscopy and nanotechnology approaches. The fabrication of functional, nano-patterned arrays of photosynthetic complexes, the first such work for a membrane protein, forms the basis for rational design of devices for collecting and using solar energy.
