报告摘要:
Biobased production of various commodity chemicals and materials from renewable resources is a promising alternative to the chemical synthesis that relies on limited, non-renewable petroleum. Metabolic engineering of bacterial cell factories has contributed significantly to the enhanced production of the chemicals and materials. Recently, metabolic engineering has been upgraded to the systems level (thus, systems metabolic engineering) by the integrated use of global technologies of systems biology, synthetic biology and evolutionary engineering. Here, we show several representative examples of systems metabolic engineering for the production of protein polymers and the nylon monomer diamines.
报告人简介:
Dr. Xiaoxia Xia is currently working as a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tufts University. She earned her Ph.D. degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Korea in January 2009. She pursues these two major research directions: (1) Systems biology approaches that enable efficient strain improvements for the production of bio-based protein materials and chemicals. (2) Biosynthesis of smart materials and their applications in drug delivery and tissue engineering.
