报告摘要:
As one of the most structurally diverse classes of natural products, isoprenoids have traditionally been valued as commercially important products in various applications
including medicine, flavor and fragrances, and nutraceuticals. Large-scale production by microbial fermentation represents an attractive alternative source for isoprenoids. For
example, Saccharomyces cerevisiae was successfully engineered for the production of anti-malarial drug artemisinin (Qinghaosu). This landmark work has also inspired the
recent development of isoprenoids as renewable chemicals as well as transportation fuels. In this talk, I will describe our efforts in engineering highly efficient yeast strains
for the cost-effective production of industrial chemicals and biofuels.
报告人简介:
Lishan Zhao, Ph.D., has over a decade of industrial experience in developing technologies for the cost-effective production of biofuels and renewable chemicals. Since
joining Amyris in 2008, he has built and led an enzymology and protein engineering team that delivered improved enzymes as well as innovative technologies for efficient
microbial isoprenoid production. Prior to Amyris, Dr. Zhao spent 6 years at Verenium (formerly Diversa Corporation), where he led a number of successful internal and external
projects on developing cellulosic technologies for biofuels. Dr. Zhao received his doctorate from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, in the field of microbial pathway
engineering and enzymology, a M.S and a B.S in organic chemistry from Fudan University, Shanghai, China. He has 25 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and is an inventor on
over 30 issued and pending patents.
